CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS

Okay, so Chloe had her 3rd set of grommets inserted in December 2011.  We went back to ENT a couple of weeks ago and yet again she failed her hearing test.

It is such a stressful time as she is now being referred to Lauriston Building, ENT for further tests on the cochlea and nerve endings in her ears.

I am so frustrated and I think quite rightly so!  ENT at the Sick Kids did say prior to her receiving her 3rd set of grommets that "we should have kept a closer eye on her".  No shit Sherlock huh?!?!?!  However, I as her mother should have pushed for them to keep a closer eye on her so I feel I have failed her also.

School is still a sore point.  I have spoken to them so many times (her new school) about her hearing loss and it took me emailing the other day for her to be moved nearer the teacher.  I have worked out what Chloe's 'stare' is.  She is trying, and I have confirmed this with her, to read what is being said from the lips!

The stress is not helping my bi-polar either as I am on another mission to try my hardest to get her into Rudolf Steiner as I firmly believe she needs the smaller classes to flourish both socially and academically.  I owe her that much.  I love my daughter so much and only want what's best for her and I will try my hardest to get her into Steiner's it all just comes down to money.

I think it is so important with children that have been diagnosed with glue ear that they are followed up regularly as they may have underlying problems also.  Plus the fact, grommets fall out and the glue builds up again.

We now have the waiting game to hear from ENT, Lauriston Building to go for further tests.  She may require hearing aids but we shall just have to wait and see.

Whilst waiting I am not sitting around doing nothing.  I am contacting charities about funding for independent schools and collecting as many professional reports in relation to Chloe as possible.  It is the least I can do for my beautiful little girl!

If you are worried about your child's hearing, please follow your instinct as a parent and push for hearing tests to be done.  If you are not satisfied go back and push some more and don't give up until someone listens to you!
